Your obligation does not transfer to us. UK GDPR Article 5(1)(f) makes you responsible for keeping sensitive information secure through to disposal, and Article 32 requires measures proportionate to the risk. The waste duty of care at section 34 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 separately requires documented transfer to an authorised carrier. A Certificate of Destruction answers both an ICO enquiry and an auditor, which is where the peace of mind comes from: a dated record naming what was destroyed, when, and by whom.
